Pacific Oil launches engineering scholarship
Pacific Oil Management Limited, a PNG owned company is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring four final year Mechanical Engineering students at the University of Technology in Lae, Morobe Province this year.
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Technology and awarding of scholarships to the four final year Mechanical Engineering students will take place next week.
It will be an ongoing scholarship program Pacific Oil Management will be running with the University’s Mechanical Engineering Department.
This scholarship program is dedicated to the country’s first Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, the late Professor John Pumwa.
The late Professor John Pumwa has set an engineering benchmark in PNG and Pacific Oil Management wishes to identify that under this scholarship so many more Papua New Guineans continue to raise the bar in Mechanical Engineering.
These students after graduating will be given a work placement with Pacific Oil Management Limited, where they will be provided the opportunity to obtain experience and support in their field of expertise.

- Former Head of Mechanical Engineering Department –PNG University of Technology
- First Papua New Guinean to be awarded an engineering Ph.D
- First Professor in Engineering in PNG
- Recipient of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Society
- Recognized by the Institute of Engineers PNG (IEPNG) and because of his contribution in education to the industry, he was appointed as a fellow of the institution
- Ranked as a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)- probably the first Papua New Guinean recognized as a fellow of the society
- Member of the institution of Mechanical Engineers U.K
